Taking a pounding

MISAWA AIR Base, Japan -- Brig. Gen. Sam Angelella, 35th Fighter Wing and installation commander, takes part in the annual mochitsuki ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 20. Mochitsuki, or pounding steamed rice, means making mochi (sweet rice cakes). Japanese schedule their mochitsuki events just before the New Year. It is an event, allowing young and old to socialize and have fun in a community project.
