On May 24, Staff Sgt. Daniel P. Troy, 35th Maintenance Squadron, was found guilty in a Special Court Martial of 16 specifications of misconduct. Specifically, he violated a written no-contact orders multiple times; repeatedly drove while under the influence of Bron and a combination of Bron and Klonopin; wrongfully used Ativan, Adderall, Bron, Percocet, and Klonopin; wrongfully distributed Klonopin; wrongfully introduced Bron onto Misawa Air Base; and wrongfully solicited another Airman to use Bron.

From May 2012 to mid-January 2013, now Airman Basic Troy systematically abused massive amounts of Bron, finally reaching the point of ingesting five to six boxes of Bron at a time. He abused Bron and other illegal pharmaceuticals while on duty and in the presence of three junior Airmen.

Rather than living up to his responsibilities as a noncommissioned officer, he demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of others, his chain of command, and the integrity of the Air Force when he illegally used and distributed drugs and solicited young Airmen to use drugs. When one of these Airmen self-identified his own substance abuse problem, Troy disregarded that Airman's pleas for Troy to get help as well. Troy then brought drugs to that Airman in the Unit Control Center so he could get high "one more time" prior to being sent to the continental United States for drug-abuse treatment.

"Airman Basic Troy was a far departure from what is expected of our NCOs. He failed to set the right example for junior Airmen. Even worse, he routinely used drugs while at work and while driving around Misawa and Aomori prefecture," said Maj. Jed Dorman, 35th Fighter Wing deputy staff judge advocate. "I hope this case serves as a reminder that abusing drugs of all forms significantly degrades the mission and negatively impacts one's career."

The Special Court Martial panel sentenced Troy to 12 months confinement, reduction to the grade of E-1, and forfeiture of $1010.00 per month for 12 months.
