UPDATE-PRESS RELEASE: Misawa Airman found deceased in on-base residence

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Christopher Blackwell, assigned to the 35th Operation Support Squadron, was found unresponsive in his dorm room on Thursday and pronounced deceased at approximately 12 p.m.

Blackwell was a 25-year-old from Mililani Town, Hawaii, and an airfield systems technician who served in the Air Force since April 2016.

"Each and every person here on base is a valuable member of Team Misawa and this loss affects the entire Misawa community," said Col. R. Scott Jobe, 35th Fighter Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and wingmen. We are doing everything we can to support them during this difficult time."

The cause of death is still under investigation and details will be released as they become available
