Wild Weasel of the Week: Airman 1st Class Luz Sanchez



Each week a member of the 35th Fighter Wing is selected as the Wild Weasel of the Week. This individual is recognized based on superior performance, outstanding work ethic, and overall good conduct and discipline.

The 35th Fighter Wing Staff Agency chose Airman 1st Class Luz Sanchez, emergency actions controller, to be their Wild Weasel of the Week.

What is your daily mission?
To be the command and control operational link to higher headquarters for our wing commander and the installation. We up- and down-channel information between the installation and higher headquarters during emergencies as well as day-to-day operations.

What do you enjoy about your job?
The involvement we have in base-wide exercises. It's the time for us to shine, it's what we train for.

Why did you choose to serve in the Air Force?
It was always a dream of mine to join the military and serve my country. I woke up one day and decided that after so many years of wondering I needed to just enlist.

What is your favorite thing about living in Japan?
The people, ramen and snowboarding.

Who has been your best mentor and what have they taught you?
Lt. Col. Erick Fonseca, chief of command post, taught me the importance of actively setting and pursuing goals. Second Lt. Jason Kelly, a prior enlisted member, taught me the importance of self-improvement and inspired me to follow my dreams. Master Sgt. Simorrah Majors who is an expert in the 1C3 career field, has inspired me to embrace our mission and to continue excelling in all aspects as a professional and individual. Tech. Sgt. Kepler Baksh who is both a mentor to me and the Misawa First Four organization, has shown me the importance of being a well-rounded Airman that excels in airmanship, leadership and education. 

How long have you been stationed at Misawa? 1 year

How long have you been in the Air Force? 1.5 years

What goals do you want to meet while at Misawa?
Excel in my job, work on my education, and continue working with the Misawa First Four organization to strengthen the group and leave behind a legacy.

What goals do you want to meet during your Air Force career? 
Experience multiple aspects of my career field and later become an officer.
